Paris Travel Blog

Paris, the French capital drawing visitors for centuries around the world. Starting with historic monuments to the exceptional cuisines, Paris has it all. Wandering on the streets of the romantic city, posing in front of the Eiffel, shopping on the fashion street, eating the French desserts, walking in the beautiful gardens and going in and out of cafes -just defines the perfect day. You will be amazed to see the beauty, culture, fashion and history everywhere.

I went to Paris in winter for four days and it was magical. So, here are all the details about my visit to Paris.

HOW TO GET THERE

You can land at Charles de Gaulle airport and easily take public transportation. Or, if you are closer, you can take the train. There are many high-speed trains that route into Paris. We went by Thalys from Rotterdam. It took us almost 2 hours 45 minute.

WHEN TO GO

I feel you can go anytime. We went to wintertime which was just lovely. (But yes it was cold and I couldn't take pictures in dresses). In my opinion summer or spring would be the perfect time to visit Paris as the weather will be lovely and the flowers are blooming. You can walk around late and the spend time in parks.

PLACES TO VISIT

Eiffel Tower

Built-in 1889 world fair, the iron tower stands 324 meters tall. It's truly breathtaking and remarkable. I remember the moment I first saw it my jaw just dropped. The area is crowded and a lot of activities happen around the Eiffel tower. You can have a picnic, photoshoot, buy souvenirs, go on the top of the Eiffel, take a boat ride. But the best would be to stay till night and see the Eiffel glow with lights.

Montmartre

You must visit Montmartre. It's not a very recommended destination to visit. It's mostly visited because of the church Sacré-Cœur. Apart from the church, there is so much to see in Montmartre. You must wander around and notice all the art influence. No wonder artist like Vincent Van Gogh and Picasso were attracted to the area. I felt art is the heart of this place. It is one of the most beautiful places in Paris and my favourite. I wanted a part of Montmartre to be with me, hence ended up buying a little painting.

Sacré-Cœur

Located on a hilltop is a roman catholic church. It's the second most visited monument in Paris. Outside the church, so many lights and fire shows happen. The entrance to the Sacre-Coeur is free, and it’s open from 6 AM to 10.30 PM.

Louvre is the world's largest art museum and a historic monument in Paris, France. It also has the Louvre Pyramid (Pyramide du Louvre), a large glass and metal pyramid, serves as the main entrance of the Museum. It has the most famous Da Vinci’s masterpiece the ‘Mona Lisa’. Apart from that, there is a much more spectacular collection of art and sculptures. If you want more insight into the famous artworks, you can sign up for a guided tour of the museum.

TRAVEL TIP

If you admire art, culture and history, I would suggest you spare one day for Louvre.

Notre Dame

Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the finest example of French Gothic architecture. You can walk around and sightsee other monuments that are present in the area.

Shopping In Paris

Do I need to say anymore? It's the fashion capital. The world-famous Avenue Champs-Élysées. It's a shopper's paradise with almost every luxury brand you can imagine.

Catacombs

Beneath Paris city, there is an empire of death waiting for tourists. The place seemed unattractive to me (I was scared and grossed). But history tells us a lot about the place. By the 17th century, enough people were living in Paris and so many died which eventually flooded the cemetery. Diseases and overstuffed graves became a bigger problem. The solution to all this was to place them in the centuries old-tunnel that existed since the 13th century (remnants of a time when limestone quarries were mined to build Paris into a thriving city).
